Race Summary & Analysis (2026)

Andrea Kimi Antonelli secured a commanding victory for Mercedes at the Spanish Grand Prix, taking the chequered flag with a final margin of 4.351 seconds over his nearest rival. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen claimed the runner-up position, successfully holding off a charging Lando Norris. The McLaren driver finished a close third, crossing the line just 5.089 seconds behind the race winner, indicating a tight battle for the podium positions in the closing stages of the event.

Further down the order, Charles Leclerc finished as the lead Ferrari in a distant fourth position, 29.116 seconds from the lead. He was narrowly ahead of the second Mercedes of George Russell, who rounded out the top five. Red Bull’s Liam Lawson secured a solid sixth place, while Franco Colapinto brought his Alpine home in seventh, just ahead of Oscar Piastri’s McLaren. The final points were awarded to Arvid Lindblad of Racing Bulls in ninth and Audi’s Nico Hülkenberg in tenth, both of whom finished one lap down on the leaders.

The Grand Prix saw a significant rate of attrition, with four drivers failing to finish the race. The list of retirements (DNF) included Lewis Hamilton in his Ferrari and home driver Carlos Sainz for Williams. Also failing to reach the conclusion of the race were Sergio Pérez of the Cadillac F1 Team and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll. All four drivers were forced into non-classification, ending their respective campaigns prematurely at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
