The Free Practice 2 results are not available (yet).
The second free practice is often considered one of the most representative sessions of the Formula 1 weekend.
During FP2, teams work on qualifying simulations, long runs and race simulations to get a better idea of their car’s performance over one fast lap and during longer stints.
The collected data helps teams determine the optimal setting for qualifying and Grand Prix. Factors such as tire wear, tire temperature, fuel consumption, DRS effectiveness and race pace play an important role.
Although the fastest lap time often gets the most attention, during FP2 teams and analysts mainly look at performance over longer runs.
Differences between teammates, tire management, grip level, track temperature, track evolution and performance on different Pirelli compounds often provide a much better picture of the actual power ratio.
FIA rules surrounding track limits, red flags and safety on the track can also influence the outcome of the session. As a result, lap times must always be placed in the correct context.
The step toward qualifying and the Grand Prix
For many teams, FP2 serves as the final major test session before the focus shifts entirely to qualifying, the Sprint Shootout, the sprint race, or the Grand Prix. Performance during this session often provides an initial indication of which drivers are in contention for pole position, podium finishes, and championship points.
