Circuit Record Holders & Grand Prix History

The Baku City Circuit has resisted singular domination, with no driver securing more than two victories. This distinction is shared by Red Bull stablemates Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez, each claiming a pair of wins during the team’s most competitive period. The roll of honour is otherwise populated by one-time victors, including world champion Lewis Hamilton and his former Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas. Daniel Ricciardo, Oscar Piastri, and George Russell complete the list, each having a single triumphant outing on the challenging streets of Azerbaijan.

On the constructors’ front, Red Bull Racing stands as the undisputed benchmark in Baku. The Milton Keynes squad has amassed five victories, establishing a formidable record that spans different regulatory eras. Their closest competitor, Mercedes-AMG Petronas, holds a strong second place with three wins, including Lewis Hamilton’s 2018 victory and George Russell’s more recent success in 2026. McLaren is the only other team to have reached the top step, courtesy of Oscar Piastri’s breakthrough performance in 2024.

The event’s competitive history began with a duel between Red Bull and Mercedes, who traded victories from 2017 to 2019. This was followed by a pronounced period of Red Bull supremacy, where the team secured four wins across the 2021-2025 seasons. However, the narrative shifted as regulations matured. Oscar Piastri delivered a significant win for McLaren in 2024, before George Russell re-established Mercedes as a winning force in 2026, signalling a new era of multi-team contention for supremacy on the Caspian shores.
