Jack Wolff, the nine-year-old son of Mercedes F1 Team Principal Toto Wolff, has avoided significant injury following a go-kart crash in Italy. The incident occurred during a heat race at the IAME Warrior Final competition at Leopard Circuit Viterbo on Friday, October 23, 2026.

Wolff was competing in the X30 Mini class when his kart made contact with another competitor on a straight during the final lap. The collision caused Wolff’s kart to spin, subsequently being collected by a following kart.

The impact primarily affected Wolff’s shoulder area. Despite the visual severity of the crash, which saw another kart launch over his back, medical checks at the circuit confirmed no serious injuries.

Reports indicate that Wolff was able to exit his kart under his own power. He expressed a desire to continue racing on Saturday, October 24, demonstrating his resilience.

The IAME Warrior Final is a prominent event on the junior karting calendar, attracting young talents globally. The X30 Mini class is designed for drivers aged 8-12, known for its competitive racing.

This event, IWF26, runs from October 19 to October 24, 2026, at the Leopard Circuit Viterbo. Wolff had previously secured his first karting title this year in the IAME Series Italy X30 U10 category at the same circuit.

The crash took place while both his parents, Toto and Susie Wolff, are in the United States for the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend. Toto Wolff is present in his capacity as CEO of the Mercedes F1 team.

Susie Wolff, Managing Director of the F1 Academy, is also in Austin, Texas, for the F1 Academy race, which is part of the United States Grand Prix weekend.

A Mercedes team spokesperson confirmed that Jack Wolff was ‘shaken but otherwise unharmed’ following the incident, and that he was eager to return to the track.

The United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas is the 18th round of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team currently leads the Constructors’ Championship.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli, a Mercedes driver, leads the 2026 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship by 102 points over teammate George Russell. With five races remaining after the United States Grand Prix, Antonelli has his first opportunity to secure the title this weekend.

To clinch the championship in Austin, Antonelli must win the race, with Russell finishing ninth or lower and Lewis Hamilton, driving for Ferrari, finishing fifth or lower.

During Free Practice 1 for the United States Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc set the fastest time for Ferrari. Russell finished fourth, 0.326 seconds behind Leclerc, while Antonelli was fifth.

Antonelli, being 20 years old, would not be permitted to celebrate with champagne on the podium due to US drinking laws, which require individuals to be 21. An alcohol-free alternative would be provided.
