The FIA has issued multiple penalties following recent Formula 1 sessions, significantly altering results and grid positions. Liam Lawson received a disqualification from qualifying, while Ryo Hirakawa secured a point on his debut.

Lawson’s disqualification from the Mexican Grand Prix qualifying session stemmed from a breach of technical regulations. His Racing Bulls car was found to have reduced its maximum electrical power (MGU-K) at a greater rate than permitted after crossing the finish line on his fastest Q2 lap.

This technical infringement, despite Racing Bulls self-reporting and arguing no performance advantage was gained, led to his elimination from the qualifying results. Lawson had initially qualified eighth but was already facing a one-place grid penalty for an earlier collision with Max Verstappen.

As a direct consequence of Lawson’s disqualification, other drivers moved up the order. Ryo Hirakawa, making his Formula 1 debut for Haas, benefited by securing a point.

Further penalties were distributed across various events. Oscar Piastri received a ten-second penalty for a collision with Arvid Lindblad. Franco Colapinto was also handed a ten-second penalty for ignoring yellow flags. Pierre Gasly incurred a ten-second stop-and-go penalty. George Russell was fined 5,000 euros for missing media obligations.

The Mexican Grand Prix was restarted at 22:45 Dutch time (09:45 PM local time in Mexico City) following track repairs at Turn 1. The race resumed with a standing start after a formation lap, covering 25 laps, with Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc leading Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli.

Valtteri Bottas was taken to the medical centre as a precaution after a crash on lap 45 of the Mexican Grand Prix. His Cadillac suffered a front-left suspension failure, sending him into the barriers. Cadillac confirmed Bottas exited the car unaided and was responsive on team radio, later stating he was ‘okay’ and released from the medical centre.

Haas implemented a driver change for the remainder of the Mexican Grand Prix weekend, with reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa replacing Esteban Ocon. Hirakawa, a two-time FIA World Endurance Champion, made his Formula 1 race debut. Haas did not disclose the reason for Ocon’s replacement, but confirmed it was not due to illness.

The FIA opened an investigation into Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson for ‘erratic driving’ during a practice session in Mexico. The incident involved Verstappen being held up by Lawson, leading to contact between their cars and damage.

Sergio Pérez missed the Fan Forum at his home circuit due to illness, while Andrea Kimi Antonelli also missed media day in Mexico due to a viral infection.

Pérez recently extended his contract with Cadillac, committing to the American Formula 1 team until at least 2029.

Max Verstappen sat out the first free practice session in Mexico, with Ayumu Iwasa driving his Red Bull as part of the mandatory rookie tests.

Lance Stroll started the United States Grand Prix from the pit lane. Aston Martin made unauthorised changes to his car’s suspension setup and replaced five power-unit components under parc fermé conditions.

Additionally, Arvid Lindblad, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Franco Colapinto received grid penalties for the United States Grand Prix due to exceeding their permitted allocation of power unit components. Bortoleto incurred a 20-place penalty, Colapinto a 10-place penalty, and Lindblad a five-place penalty.

Max Verstappen received a reprimand and one warning point after an incident with an Audi during the first free practice of the GT World Challenge in Portimão.

Lewis Hamilton felt unwell after the Singapore Grand Prix and was excused from media obligations following an assessment by the FIA medical team.

Isack Hadjar, Fernando Alonso, and Lance Stroll all started the Singapore Grand Prix from the pit lane. This was due to power unit component changes and suspension adjustments made under parc fermé conditions.

Dries Van Langendonck, a 16-year-old Belgian talent, secured the 2026 British Formula 4 title with Rodin Motorsport.

Lando Norris received no penalty after an incident with teammate Oscar Piastri during a sprint race.

Red Bull Racing confirmed a power unit change for Isack Hadjar between the sprint race and qualifying, using a previously used engine to avoid a grid penalty.

Qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix was delayed by 30 minutes due to a prolonged sprint race, starting at 21:30 local time.

Laurens van Hoepen signed a contract with MP Motorsport for the 2027 Formula 2 season.

Mercedes opted to run George Russell without new upgrade components in Singapore, while Kimi Antonelli reverted to an older front wing, indicating issues with recent updates.

Formula 1 has confirmed a 10-year agreement for a return to Africa, with a Grand Prix in Rwanda planned from the early 2030s. A new purpose-built circuit will be constructed near Kigali.

George Russell is anticipated to receive a grid penalty for a power unit change at an upcoming Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso is scheduled to return to the Dakar Rally in 2027, competing in a Dacia managed by Prodrive.
