Race Summary & Analysis (2026)

George Russell secured victory for Mercedes at the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix, earning 25 points. He finished a narrow 1.611 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who claimed 18 points for second place. Mercedes celebrated a strong double podium as rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli brilliantly secured third, crossing the line just +1.986s behind the winner. The tight finish, with less than two seconds separating the top three, highlighted a closely contested battle for the podium places.

Behind the leading trio, Oscar Piastri brought his McLaren home in a solid fourth place, albeit 21.809 seconds adrift of the winner. Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton finished fifth, followed by Isack Hadjar for Red Bull and Lando Norris for McLaren in sixth and seventh respectively. Charles Leclerc claimed eighth position for Ferrari, with the final points awarded to the Racing Bulls duo of Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad. Both Lawson and Lindblad finished one lap down but successfully captured ninth and tenth places.

The race featured a high rate of attrition, with four drivers failing to finish. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Williams’ Carlos Sainz both recorded DNFs, ending their races prematurely. It was a disastrous outing for the Cadillac F1 Team, which suffered a double retirement as both Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas failed to see the chequered flag. In contrast, eighteen drivers were classified, with Fernando Alonso being the final runner to cross the line, finishing three laps down in 18th place.
