Sebastian Montoya is currently competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship for Prema Racing during the 2026 season. The Colombian-American driver made his debut in the Formula 2 category in 2025.
Montoya was previously a member of the Red Bull Junior Team, having joined the prestigious program in 2023. He separated from the Red Bull development scheme after the 2023 season.
In the current 2026 Formula 2 campaign, Montoya has secured one podium finish. As of late August 2026, he holds 15th position in the championship standings.
Recent public comments from his father, Juan Pablo Montoya, have indicated a critical stance towards Max Verstappen. Juan Pablo Montoya has voiced concerns regarding Verstappen’s criticism of the 2026 Formula 1 regulations.
The former Formula 1 race winner suggested that drivers who publicly disparage the sport should face consequences. He even proposed that Verstappen could be ‘parked’ for his remarks.
Meanwhile, Red Bull’s junior program is undergoing significant changes for the 2027 season. Nikola Tsolov is reportedly set for a promotion to Racing Bulls.
Tsolov, a Red Bull junior, is expected to partner Arvid Lindblad at the sister team for the 2027 Formula 1 campaign. This move is reportedly nearing finalisation.
Further strengthening the Red Bull junior structure, Gwen Lagrue will join the organisation as the new director of the Red Bull Junior Program from 2027.
Lagrue arrives from Mercedes, where he played a central role in their young driver development for over a decade. His appointment underscores Red Bull’s investment in future talent.
The team continues to evaluate its pool of junior drivers for potential Formula 1 opportunities within the Red Bull and Racing Bulls outfits in the coming years.
