Red Bull is reportedly preparing to add Robin Raikkonen, the 11-year-old son of 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, to its driver development programme. The Raikkonen family was observed entering the Red Bull motorhome at Monza on Sunday, September 6, 2026, intensifying speculation regarding the impending announcement.
The potential signing aligns with Red Bull’s established strategy of identifying and nurturing young talent from early stages in motorsport. The Red Bull Junior Team has historically produced numerous Formula 1 drivers, including all four current drivers across their two teams.
Robin Raikkonen is currently competing in karting, several years before he would be eligible for single-seater categories. He secured the Swiss RMC karting championship in the Micro Max class during 2024.
Earlier this year, in April 2026, Robin also achieved a fifth-place finish in his world karting championship debut, having started from 22nd position. His godfather, Gino Rosato, a Red Bull consultant and former Ferrari senior manager, has publicly noted Robin’s talent.
Rosato indicated in August that ‘exciting news’ regarding Robin’s future could be shared before the end of the current year. He described the young Finn as ‘very calm, very composed, and very fast.’
The Red Bull Junior Programme is undergoing leadership changes, with Helmut Marko having departed the company at the close of 2025. Gwen Lagrue is set to take over as Director of the programme from 2027.
Lagrue joins Red Bull from Mercedes, where he spent over a decade overseeing their young driver initiatives. During his tenure at Mercedes, he was instrumental in the development of drivers such as George Russell and Kimi Antonelli.
In parallel, Red Bull is also reinforcing its technical leadership. Tom McCullough will join the team as Head of Racing at the beginning of the 2027 season, moving from Aston Martin.
McCullough brings extensive experience, having spent more than ten years with Aston Martin and its predecessors, Force India and Racing Point, where he served as Performance Director.
This appointment follows the confirmed departure of Gianpiero Lambiase, Red Bull’s current Head of Racing and Max Verstappen’s race engineer. Lambiase is contracted until the end of 2027 and will join McLaren as Chief Racing Officer by 2028.
Tom Hart, who previously worked as Verstappen’s performance engineer, is expected to become the Dutchman’s new race engineer. Hart was observed working with Verstappen during Friday practice at Monza this weekend as part of his acclimatisation.
Hart had been linked with a move to Williams to engineer Alex Albon but was persuaded to remain with Red Bull. The expectation is that Lambiase’s responsibilities will be divided between McCullough and Hart.
‘We’re delighted to welcome Tom to the team at the beginning of 2027 and look forward to the wealth of experience and expertise he will bring to the role,’ Red Bull stated regarding McCullough’s arrival.
