Alan Permane has described the difficult start to the 2026 season for Visa Cash App Racing Bulls as a deeply negative experience. The Team Principal called the period of underperformance for the Faenza-based team ‘terrible’.
Permane took the helm at Racing Bulls following a management reshuffle within the Red Bull organisation. He arrived as the team navigated the challenging new 2026 regulations, which proved difficult to master initially.
To see the potential and then not deliver on track, that is terrible. For me, that is the worst thing.
The team struggled for consistent results in the opening phase of the championship. Drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad found it difficult to extract performance from the VCARB 03, often failing to score significant points.
A particular low point came during the Miami Grand Prix weekend, where both cars failed to finish in the points. This was part of a trend that left the team trailing rivals like Alpine in the constructors’ standings.
However, a series of strong results from the Monaco Grand Prix onwards marked a clear turning point. The team secured four consecutive double-points finishes through to the race at Great Britain, signalling a significant recovery.
This run of form has elevated the team in the standings, with Lawson and Lindblad now consistently competing in the top ten. Permane has praised both drivers for their performance and professionalism during the difficult initial races.
Permane credits the turnaround to the relentless work at the factory. He noted a shift in development that has begun to unlock the car’s potential, allowing the team to meet its higher ambitions and expectations.
