Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu has stated that Jack Doohan’s Formula 1 future with the team beyond the current 2026 season remains ‘up in the air.’ This follows the recent announcement of Rafael Camara joining Haas for the 2027 season.

Camara, a 21-year-old Brazilian and Ferrari Driver Academy member, was officially confirmed by Haas on October 15, 2026, to race for the team on a multi-year contract starting in 2027.

He is currently leading the 2026 FIA Formula 2 Drivers’ Championship with Invicta Racing, having secured three Feature race victories and five pole positions this season.

Camara’s promotion to a full-time F1 seat for 2027 means he will replace Esteban Ocon, who is departing Haas after two seasons.

Ollie Bearman, also a Ferrari junior and current Haas driver, is widely expected to be Camara’s teammate for the 2027 season. Bearman’s contract reportedly runs until the end of 2027.

Doohan, who serves as one of Haas’s reserve drivers for the 2026 season alongside Ryo Hirakawa, was among several candidates evaluated for the 2027 race seat.

The selection process included a Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) program. This test took place in August at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, Portugal.

Drivers involved in the TPC test included Camara, Leo Fornaroli, Ryo Hirakawa, and Jack Doohan.

Komatsu indicated that all drivers performed well during the evaluation. He specifically noted Camara’s performance in the TPC test as decisive.

“To be fair, the good thing of all the driver selection process was all the drivers who were involved did a very, very good job. Rafa, Leo Fornaroli, Ryo Hirakawa, Jack Doohan. I believe they all got the best out of themselves and every time they got in the car, they improved. So that was honestly a very, very uplifting process to be involved with.”

Komatsu further commented on Camara’s speed during the test, stating, ‘He was the quickest. That was a very simple answer. It was impressive.’

Doohan joined Haas as a reserve driver in February 2026.

Prior to this, he was an Alpine Academy driver and reserve for Alpine in 2023 and 2024. He made his F1 race debut at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Doohan also competed in the opening six races of the 2025 season for Alpine before returning to reserve duties.

Despite missing out on the 2027 race seat, Komatsu stated that Haas’s ‘door’s open’ for Doohan.

Discussions are ongoing with Doohan and his management regarding potential collaboration beyond the current year.
