Audi introduced a special livery for its Formula 1 car at the recently concluded Singapore Grand Prix. The design featured a unique interpretation of Titanium Silver Grey, specifically tailored for the nocturnal race conditions at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. This marked the team’s first special livery since its full entry into the sport this season.

The livery incorporated traditional Peranakan patterns, a direct homage to Singapore’s rich cultural heritage. This intricate detailing provided a distinctive visual element, blending modern motorsport aesthetics with local cultural motifs. The design extended beyond the car, appearing on the race suits.

Both Audi factory drivers, Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, wore race suits featuring the special Peranakan-inspired design. This ensured a cohesive visual presentation across the team’s presence throughout the Singapore Grand Prix weekend.

The primary inspiration for the livery’s colour scheme and pattern integration was the transition from day to night at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. This concept aimed to reflect the unique atmosphere of the night race.

Audi’s full factory entry into Formula 1 commenced with the 2026 season, taking over the existing Sauber team structure. The German manufacturer is developing its own power unit at its Neuburg facility in Germany.

The 2026 technical regulations introduced a new power unit architecture, emphasizing increased electrical power and the use of sustainable fuels. This regulatory shift aligns with Audi’s strategic objectives for its motorsport programme.

Nico Hülkenberg was confirmed as one of Audi’s factory drivers for the 2026 season, signing a multi-year agreement. His extensive Formula 1 experience, spanning over a decade with various teams, is crucial for the new project.

Gabriel Bortoleto, the 2023 FIA Formula 3 champion, joined Hülkenberg as the second driver for the Audi F1 team. Bortoleto’s signing highlights Audi’s strategy to combine seasoned experience with emerging talent.

Prior to his Formula 1 debut with Audi, Bortoleto was part of the McLaren Driver Development Programme. His transition to Audi marks a significant step in his career.

Peranakan culture, a blend of Chinese, Malay, and Indonesian influences, is prominent in Singapore. Its patterns often feature intricate floral and geometric motifs, symbolising prosperity and harmony.

The integration of these traditional Peranakan patterns into the livery served to connect Audi’s Formula 1 presence directly with the local culture of the Singapore Grand Prix host nation.

The 2026 Singapore Grand Prix took place from October 2 to 4 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The special livery was therefore showcased during the entire race weekend.
