Cadillac has entered its maiden Formula 1 season in 2026, with team principal Graeme Lowdon detailing the American outfit’s strategy to become a leading competitor. The team has completed 11 rounds of its debut campaign.

Lowdon emphasised that simply spending large sums of money has not historically guaranteed success in Formula 1. He noted that the budget cap further limits this approach for all teams.

Instead, Cadillac’s core strategy focuses on cultivating a strong working environment. This is considered crucial for fostering a positive atmosphere, enhancing performance, and attracting top talent.

Lowdon expressed confidence that the team’s ambitious goals and the challenge of a new F1 entry would appeal to skilled professionals. He believes this attracts individuals seeking a fresh venture.

‘I hope that we’ve demonstrated that it’s a team with bold ambition. We do want to constantly improve. I think that’s attractive to good people,’ Lowdon stated.

He added that the visible challenge of building a new team in Formula 1 is a significant draw for many. Lowdon aims to establish a high-performance environment, central to top racing teams.

This approach, which prioritises a strong team culture and talent acquisition, echoes the growth seen in successful teams like Red Bull Racing. It aims to propel Cadillac towards championship contention.

Lowdon articulated an internal goal: ‘We want this to be the team everyone wants to be a part of, where everyone is proud to be a part of, and where no one wants to leave.’

Achieving this environment is expected to attract the best personnel, build a formidable team, and subsequently yield strong on-track results. Cadillac aims for long-term presence and success in F1.

During its maiden 2026 season, Cadillac has shown growth and development, often challenging midfield competitors. The team has been on the cusp of Q2 appearances, at times ahead of Aston Martin.

However, the team has also faced reliability issues, including non-finishes in six of the last seven Grands Prix. Lowdon acknowledged the inherent challenges of a new F1 operation.

Cadillac’s driver lineup for the 2026 season features experienced racers Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas. Colton Herta serves as a test driver, with Zhou Guanyu as reserve.

The team currently utilises customer Ferrari power units. General Motors, Cadillac’s parent company, is developing its own F1 power unit, slated for introduction in 2029.

Cadillac operates a European facility in Silverstone, England, and is constructing a new headquarters in Fishers, Indiana. A dedicated power unit facility is planned near GM’s Charlotte Technical Center.

By the end of 2025, Cadillac had hired 520 staff members, following advertisements for 595 positions. This rapid expansion underscores their commitment to building a robust team.

Lowdon maintains that while the team is proud of its progress, the nature of F1 means continuous improvement is always sought. He stressed the long-term vision for competitiveness.
