Christian Horner’s potential return to the Formula 1 paddock remains unconfirmed, marking one year since his departure from Red Bull Racing. He was dismissed from his role as Team Principal and CEO on July 5, 2025.

The decision followed an internal investigation by Red Bull GmbH into allegations of inappropriate behavior. The specifics of these allegations were not publicly disclosed by the company.

Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of Red Bull GmbH, oversaw the investigation process that led to Horner’s contract termination. Jonathan Wheatley assumed interim team principal duties after Horner’s exit.

Reports from early this year indicated Horner was exploring options for an F1 return, potentially in a management or advisory capacity. However, these prospects have diminished in recent months.

As of July 2026, Horner has not secured a formal position within any Formula 1 team or the FIA. He has maintained a low public profile since his departure.

The Chinese automotive manufacturer BYD, mentioned in earlier speculation, will not be a route for Horner’s F1 re-entry. BYD has no official F1 team entry or significant partnership for the current 2026 season.

BYD’s primary focus remains on electric vehicle technology and related sporting events. Their motorsport presence is largely concentrated in electric racing series.

Since leaving Red Bull, Horner has been involved in various business ventures outside of Formula 1. He is reportedly consulting for a non-F1 automotive project.
