Victoria Verstappen, sister to Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen, has revealed her brother’s initial reaction to the news he would become an uncle. She devised a unique method to inform him, sending a package to his Monaco residence.
Victoria instructed Max to FaceTime her upon opening the package. Inside, he discovered a baby grow featuring a message such as ‘my uncle is the fastest’.
Max Verstappen initially reacted with confusion, reportedly stating, ‘huh, what is this?’ as he read the message. He then understood the news, expressing his delight.
He also conveyed a wish for Victoria’s first child to be a boy, anticipating future Formula 1 outings together. This wish was fulfilled with the birth of Luka in 2020.
Max Verstappen became godfather to Luka, Victoria’s first son. Victoria and her partner Tom Heuts later welcomed a second son, Lio, in 2021.
Their family expanded further in June 2024 with the arrival of a daughter, Hailey. Max Verstappen is an uncle to all three children.
In July 2026, Victoria Verstappen married Tom Heuts at the Château Neercanne estate in Maastricht. Max Verstappen and his partner Kelly Piquet attended the ceremony.
Jos Verstappen, Max and Victoria’s father, was also present and visibly emotional during the wedding. Former Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko was among the guests.
Max Verstappen himself became a father in May 2025, when Kelly Piquet gave birth to their daughter, Lily.
Currently, Max Verstappen is competing in the Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort. He qualified seventh for today’s race.
Lando Norris secured pole position for the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix. George Russell qualified second, with Kimi Antonelli taking third place.
Oscar Piastri will start fourth, followed by Lewis Hamilton in fifth and Charles Leclerc in sixth. Liam Lawson qualified eighth.
Max Verstappen is set to use the time to mull over his future with Red Bull as rumours continue to link him with a shock switch to McLaren.
The qualifying session on Saturday, August 22, 2026, saw a tense conclusion with the threat of rain influencing final runs.
