Max Verstappen has recently articulated his vision for a more streamlined Formula 1, coining the term ‘Formula Max’ to describe a more logical approach to the sport’s structure. His comments emerge amidst ongoing discussions regarding the 2026 sporting regulations.

The Red Bull driver has expressed a desire for simplification, particularly concerning the current race weekend formats. Verstappen believes that certain aspects, such as sprint race weekends, have become overly complicated for both teams and the global fanbase.

Verstappen’s ‘Formula Max’ concept reportedly advocates for fewer sprint races within the season. He suggests a return to a primary focus on the Grand Prix event, ensuring a clearer and more consistent schedule for all participants.

The Dutchman also pointed to the complexity of the current penalty systems and technical directives. He argues that these areas could benefit from a more straightforward application to enhance understanding and fairness.

Discussions surrounding the 2026 engine regulations have also seen Verstappen voice concerns. He has previously highlighted potential issues with active aerodynamics and the overall characteristics of the new generation of cars.

The FIA and Formula 1 management are currently engaging with teams and drivers to finalise the 2026 sporting regulations. These talks include potential adjustments to parc fermé rules and tyre allocation strategies.

Other drivers, including Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, have also contributed their perspectives on the upcoming 2026 regulations. A general consensus among some drivers supports a more consistent weekend structure.

Verstappen specifically mentioned that the current points system, especially the allocation for sprint races, could be made more logical. He believes this would better reflect a driver’s performance over an entire season.
