Max Verstappen has offered a direct response to ongoing speculation regarding his Formula 1 future. Ahead of the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix, the four-time world champion provided minimal comment on the persistent rumors.
When questioned about any updates or his commitment to Red Bull, Verstappen stated, ‘No,’ and ‘Nothing.’ He reiterated his previous position on such matters.
Verstappen’s contract with Red Bull Racing extends until the conclusion of the 2028 season. However, an exit clause has been widely reported within his agreement.
This clause reportedly allows him to depart Red Bull at the end of the current 2026 season. The condition for activation is being outside the top two in the Drivers’ Championship by the summer break.
Verstappen currently sits seventh in the championship standings. This position makes it mathematically impossible for him to reach second place before the summer break.
Despite this, his manager, Raymond Vermeulen, confirmed the clause’s existence but emphasized it does not guarantee activation. Vermeulen highlighted loyalty to Red Bull.
Vermeulen also stated that Verstappen ideally wishes to conclude his Formula 1 career with the Milton Keynes squad. This is contingent on the team providing a competitive car capable of winning.
The 2026 season has seen Red Bull experience a challenging start. Verstappen has secured only one podium finish across seven race weekends this year.
Recent car issues, including rear wing failures, have contributed to frustration within the team. These performance concerns fuel the ongoing driver market discussions.
Rumors have linked Verstappen to potential moves to Mercedes and McLaren for the 2027 season. McLaren has been a more recent focus of these discussions.
Verstappen’s long-time race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, is reportedly set to join McLaren in 2028. This development has added another layer to the speculation.
Verstappen concluded his recent media session by stating, ‘I have said many times about my future, that if there is something new [to say], I will say it myself.’
