René Lammers, the 18-year-old son of Dutch Formula 1 veteran Jan Lammers, is currently competing in the Eurocup-3 series for MP Motorsport. He stands third in the overall championship standings and second in the rookie classification. Lammers signed with A14 Management, the agency co-founded by two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, in 2025.
Lammers transitioned to single-seater racing after a successful karting career. He secured the WSK Euro Series 60 Mini title in 2020 and the Andrea Margutti Trophy in both 2020 and 2021. His most significant karting achievement came in 2023 when he became the FIA Karting European OK Champion at the age of 15.
Despite his European title, Lammers narrowly missed the World Karting Championship in the OK class, finishing second by a margin of 0.184 seconds. He then made his single-seater debut in the Spanish F4 Championship in 2024 with MP Motorsport, where he experienced a challenging season, finishing 19th overall.
His father, Jan Lammers, noted that Formula 4 is a particularly demanding category. He explained that the cars feature an open differential, making it less suitable for drivers who prefer high grip and immediate power application.
René Lammers continued in Spanish F4 for the 2025 season, also with MP Motorsport. During this second year, he secured multiple victories and improved significantly, finishing fourth in the championship standings.
Jan Lammers has addressed the common comparison of young drivers to Max Verstappen. He stated that Verstappen serves as a fantastic role model and a great source of motivation, but he is an unrealistic benchmark due to his historically exceptional career trajectory.
A14 Management, established by Fernando Alonso in early 2022 with partners Albert Resclosa and Alberto Fernández Albilares, focuses on guiding young drivers. The agency provides comprehensive support, including physical training, decision-making advice, and financial management.
The Eurocup-3 series, where René Lammers currently races, features cars that are technically similar to Formula 3 machinery. The championship also holds events on several circuits that host Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends.
Lammers was previously invited to join the Ferrari Driver Academy but opted to remain independent, expressing a preference to manage his own career path for as long as possible. His ultimate ambition remains to reach Formula 1.
Jan Lammers maintains a clear philosophy regarding his son’s progression, emphasizing that René must achieve victories in his current category before advancing to the next level of motorsport.
