Formula 1 analyst Peter Windsor recently commented on Max Verstappen’s driving, specifically noting a ‘phenomenal exit’ from the Red Bull driver. This observation comes during a 2026 season marked by significant regulatory changes and performance challenges for Red Bull Racing.

Windsor’s remarks underscore Verstappen’s inherent skill, even as the 2026 regulations have prompted broader discussions about their impact on driver performance. The analyst has previously stated that the current rules have, in his view, turned Verstappen into a ‘normal racing driver’.

He suggested that the new regulations neutralize Verstappen’s unique gifts, particularly his ability to ‘create corners that are unique to other drivers’ through his braking and exit techniques.

A ‘phenomenal exit’ in Formula 1 refers to a driver’s exceptional ability to carry speed through a corner’s apex and accelerate effectively upon exit. This demands precise throttle control, optimal traction management, and a finely balanced car setup.

Despite the Red Bull RB22’s early season struggles, including reliability issues with its new Red Bull Ford DM01 power unit, Verstappen has delivered notable performances.

He secured a second-place finish at the Austrian Grand Prix on June 28, 2026, and a third-place podium in Canada earlier in the season.

These results demonstrate Verstappen’s capacity to extract maximum performance from the car, even when the team has acknowledged the RB22 was initially considered fourth fastest at best.

The 2026 season has seen Red Bull Racing working to optimize the RB22 chassis and its new Ford-backed power unit. The team has faced a steep development curve under the revised technical regulations.

Verstappen himself has voiced frustrations with the 2026 car characteristics, indicating that the driving experience has changed significantly.

Windsor’s specific praise for a ‘phenomenal exit’ highlights a moment where Verstappen’s distinct driving style cut through the car’s limitations, showcasing his enduring talent.
