Lando Norris has expressed a pointed desire for a rival team to face a double disqualification, following the conclusion of the Dutch Grand Prix sprint race on Saturday, August 22, 2026. His comments directly referenced a previous incident involving his own McLaren team earlier this season.

Norris’s remarks came after a challenging sprint event at Circuit Zandvoort, where Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz secured a dominant one-two finish. Leclerc claimed victory, with Sainz in second position.

Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen finished third in the sprint, followed by George Russell for Mercedes in fourth. Norris himself crossed the line in fifth place, with his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri securing sixth.

The McLaren driver’s frustration was evident as he stated, ‘I hope they get a double disqualification just like us.’ This statement directly alludes to the Belgian Grand Prix sprint race on July 20, 2026.

During that event at Spa-Francorchamps, both Norris and Piastri were disqualified from the sprint results. The FIA technical delegate found their cars in breach of Article 3.10.1 of the Technical Regulations.

The infringement concerned the front wing assembly on both McLaren vehicles, which was deemed non-compliant with the stringent aerodynamic specifications for the 2026 season. This penalty resulted in a significant loss of points for McLaren.

The disqualification at Spa has had a tangible impact on the Constructors’ Championship standings. As of mid-August 2026, Ferrari holds a narrow lead over McLaren, with Red Bull Racing also in close contention.

Norris’s comments highlight the intense competition and the high stakes involved in the current Formula 1 season. Technical compliance and consistent performance remain critical for championship aspirations.
