Nikola Tsolov, a prominent Red Bull Junior Team driver, is scheduled to make his initial Formula 1 test appearance this week. The Bulgarian talent will drive a Racing Bulls car at the Imola circuit in Italy.
The test is set for Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari. Tsolov will be behind the wheel of the VCARB 02, Racing Bulls’ 2025 challenger.
This Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) outing is crucial for Tsolov. It aims to provide him with valuable F1 mileage. The test also helps him accumulate the necessary Super Licence points.
These points are essential for him to participate in official Formula 1 Friday practice sessions in the future. Tsolov currently leads the FIA Formula 2 Championship in his rookie season.
The 19-year-old Bulgarian has secured six victories during the current F2 campaign, driving for Campos Racing. He joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2025, having previously been part of the Alpine Academy.
Racing Bulls CEO Peter Bayer confirmed the upcoming test. He stated the team is focused on Tsolov’s preparation.
The TPC test coincides with Racing Bulls’ final filming day of the season. Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad will also be present, driving the 2026 VCARB03.
Tsolov’s TPC session allows for more extensive running compared to the 200-kilometre limit imposed on filming days. This provides a significant opportunity for the young driver.
Alan Permane, Racing Bulls Team Principal, has previously indicated Tsolov is ‘next in line’ for a potential F1 seat.
Despite ongoing speculation regarding a 2027 Racing Bulls drive, the team maintains no final decision has been made. Tsolov remains focused on his current F2 championship bid.
