McLaren has officially launched its new 788HS supercar, a model directly inspired by Formula 1 technology. The vehicle integrates advanced engineering principles from the pinnacle of motorsport.
The 788HS features a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, delivering 788PS. This power unit is combined with a dry weight of 1,265kg, resulting in a significant performance package.
This configuration provides a power-to-weight ratio of 623PS per tonne. This figure represents the highest achieved by any model within the 720S, 750S, and 765LT series.
Performance metrics for the 788HS include an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds. It reaches 200 km/h in 6.7 seconds, with a top speed of 330 km/h.
The supercar’s design incorporates advanced aerodynamic elements. These include enhanced cooling ducts and a substantial rear diffuser, optimizing airflow and downforce.
An active rear wing further contributes to aerodynamic efficiency. It adjusts to reduce drag or increase downforce as required, mirroring F1 car capabilities.
Central to the 788HS is its carbon fibre monocoque chassis. This structure is derived from Formula 1 structural principles, ensuring exceptional rigidity and lightness.
The vehicle also features an active suspension system. This system utilizes F1-style hydraulic damping, providing precise handling and dynamic control on track and road.
Lightweight materials are used extensively throughout the 788HS. This includes a titanium exhaust system, contributing to the car’s overall low mass.
Henrik Wilhelmsmeyer, Chief Commercial Officer, commented on the new model. He stated the 788HS represents a direct transfer of F1 technology and philosophy to a road car.
‘The 788HS emphasizes its track capabilities and driver engagement, offering an unparalleled driving experience derived from our racing heritage.’
Developed by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the 788HS saw collaboration with McLaren’s Formula 1 engineering division. This partnership ensured authentic motorsport integration.
Production of the 788HS will be limited to 250 units worldwide. This exclusivity targets collectors and enthusiasts seeking track-focused performance with road legality.
The starting price for the McLaren 788HS is estimated at £750,000. Official unveiling occurred in early July 2026, with initial customer deliveries anticipated in Q4 2026.
