Lando Norris, the reigning Formula 1 World Champion, has signed a new multi-year contract extension with McLaren, committing his future to the Woking-based team until at least the end of 2030. The agreement also includes a multi-year option to extend beyond that date.

The announcement was made yesterday, August 29, 2026, during a friends and families day held at the McLaren Technology Centre. Norris, 26, has been with McLaren since joining their junior programme in 2017 and made his Formula 1 debut in 2019.

Norris secured his maiden F1 Drivers’ World Championship in 2025. He has accumulated 13 Grand Prix victories, 18 pole positions, and 48 podium finishes during his tenure with McLaren.

His 163 Grand Prix starts for the team establish him as McLaren’s longest-serving driver in history. McLaren also achieved consecutive Constructors’ titles in 2024 and 2025.

Norris stated that McLaren feels like his ‘home’ and a ‘second family,’ emphasizing that his happiness and belief in the team’s potential for strong results were central to his decision. He confirmed he did not consider leaving, despite approaches from other teams.

The British driver described the decision as ‘the easiest’ of his career, expressing a desire to spend his entire Formula 1 career with McLaren.

While specific financial details of the new contract were not disclosed, Norris acknowledged his earnings are not comparable to the reported figures for Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari deal or Max Verstappen’s Red Bull contract.

As part of the new agreement, Norris will be gifted one of the MCL39 cars he drove to his championship title in 2025.

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown expressed his satisfaction with the extension.

‘I’m incredibly pleased to be signing a new contract with Lando, extending his commitment with McLaren until at least 2030,’ Brown stated. ‘His journey with the team is a fantastic example of our commitment to identifying, developing and supporting world-class talent, and his achievements speak for themselves.’

Team Principal Andrea Stella also commented on the significance of the deal.

‘Lando is an exceptional driver, someone who combines outstanding natural speed with maturity, consistency and a strong commitment to McLaren,’ Stella said. ‘This extension gives us important continuity and reinforces our confidence in the direction we are taking together.’

Norris’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of the 2027 season. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, also secured a multi-year extension last year, committing to McLaren until at least the end of 2028.

The current McLaren driver lineup for the 2026 season remains unchanged, featuring Norris and Piastri.
