Max Verstappen, a four-time Formula 1 World Champion, has stated that his daughter Lily represents his greatest achievement, surpassing his on-track successes. This sentiment highlights a shift in the Red Bull driver’s personal priorities. Verstappen has accumulated numerous victories and championships, yet he now finds his deepest sense of pride closer to home.
Lily, his daughter with partner Kelly Piquet, was born in April 2025. Her arrival marked a significant change in Verstappen’s life, prompting him to re-evaluate what holds the most importance. This personal development has been openly acknowledged by the 28-year-old driver.
Verstappen has admitted that since becoming a father, his priorities have shifted. He finds it increasingly challenging to depart for races, a feeling he described as ‘never a nice feeling’. This emotional aspect of his life as an F1 driver has become more pronounced.
To accommodate his family life, Verstappen has adjusted his travel schedule for Grand Prix weekends. He now aims to leave for events as late as possible, maximising the time spent at home with Lily and Kelly Piquet. This change reflects his commitment to his family.
Recent family milestones include the celebration of his stepdaughter Penelope’s seventh birthday in late July, followed by Lily’s first birthday in April this year. Verstappen was present for these events, underscoring his dedication to his family. He also spent the New Year period with Kelly Piquet’s family in Brazil.
Verstappen has articulated that away from the high-pressure environment of the paddock, he perceives himself as a ‘normal person’. He values spending time with his family, including their pets, which provides a sense of balance.
This newfound stability in his personal life is seen as a crucial factor as Verstappen prepares for the technical regulations of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Red Bull Racing is also entering a new partnership with Ford for the upcoming era.
Verstappen is currently under contract with Red Bull until the conclusion of the 2028 championship. Despite his extensive success, he maintains that family remains his primary focus.
