Sir Lewis Hamilton continues his involvement as a minority owner of the NFL’s Denver Broncos, now in his fifth season with the franchise. The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion joined the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group in August 2022.

The ownership group, led by Walmart heir Rob Walton, acquired the Denver Broncos for a reported $4.65 billion. This transaction marked a record for a North American sports franchise at the time.

Other prominent members of the ownership consortium include Greg Penner, who serves as the Broncos’ Chief Executive Officer, Carrie Walton Penner, Mellody Hobson, and former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Hamilton’s inclusion was publicly welcomed by Rob Walton, who cited the F1 driver’s competitive spirit and advocacy for global equality. Hamilton, 41, has maintained his commitment to the team.

Since the initial investment, the valuation of the Denver Broncos has seen substantial growth. Reports in August 2026 indicated the franchise was valued at $9.18 billion.

This figure represents a significant increase from the 2022 acquisition price, nearly doubling in value over four years. The rise in franchise valuations benefits all minority stakeholders.

Hamilton’s investment in the Broncos followed an earlier, unsuccessful attempt in April 2022 to acquire Premier League club Chelsea. He had joined a consortium with Serena Williams for that bid.

Beyond his F1 career, where he currently competes for Ferrari and is challenging for the 2026 title, Hamilton maintains a diverse investment portfolio. This includes ventures in food technology and other sectors.

His involvement with the Broncos aligns with a broader trend of high-profile athletes investing in professional sports teams. Hamilton’s role extends to community initiatives and global outreach for the NFL franchise.
