Lewis Hamilton has recounted the moment he was informed of his promotion to Formula 1. This pivotal decision, made by then-McLaren boss Ron Dennis, occurred two decades ago.
The call from Dennis marked a significant turning point in Hamilton’s career. It set the stage for his Formula 1 debut, which took place in 2007.
Fast forward to the current 2026 season, Hamilton is now competing as a Ferrari driver. He joined the Italian Scuderia at the start of the 2025 season.
The seven-time World Champion has experienced a notable improvement in performance during the 2026 campaign. This follows a challenging inaugural year with Ferrari in 2025.
Hamilton secured his first victory for Ferrari at the Barcelona Grand Prix earlier this season. He has also achieved additional podium finishes in China, Canada, Monaco, and Britain.
Currently, Hamilton holds second position in the Drivers’ Championship standings. He trails Italian teenager Kimi Antonelli.
His existing contract with Ferrari covers the 2025 and 2026 seasons. It includes an option for the 2027 campaign.
Team Principal Fred Vasseur previously confirmed a three-year agreement, extending through 2027. Reports also suggest a potential option for 2028.
Widespread reports indicate that a contract extension with Ferrari is imminent. This announcement is anticipated before the team’s home Italian Grand Prix, scheduled for September 4-6.
