Lando Norris recently commented on George Russell’s on-track demeanour. The McLaren driver suggested Russell maintains a composed public image but can be ‘secretly aggressive’ during races. These remarks were made ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Norris’s statements align with previous observations made by Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver had earlier described Russell’s race craft as ‘sometimes overly assertive’.
Verstappen’s initial comments followed an incident during the 2025 British Grand Prix. He highlighted Russell’s late defensive movements, which nearly resulted in a collision.
Norris elaborated on his perspective, noting a contrast between Russell’s ‘Mr. Perfect’ persona off-track and his competitive nature in wheel-to-wheel situations. He indicated this duality is common among top drivers.
The McLaren driver also stated his respect for Russell’s speed. However, Norris finds Russell’s on-track behaviour occasionally surprising, despite acknowledging his talent.
George Russell currently races for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. His contract with the team extends through the conclusion of the 2026 season.
Russell’s current deal was finalised in late 2024. He continues to partner Andrea Kimi Antonelli for the ongoing 2026 Formula 1 campaign.
Lando Norris remains a key figure at McLaren Racing. He secured a multi-year contract extension with the Woking-based outfit in early 2024.
Norris’s agreement ensures his presence with McLaren until at least the end of the 2027 season. He is integral to the team’s long-term strategic plans.
