McLaren driver Lando Norris has voiced significant concerns regarding the increasing intrusion into his private life by paparazzi. The reigning 2025 Formula 1 World Champion described a recent incident in London as leaving him feeling ‘violated’.

Norris, who secured his maiden F1 title in Abu Dhabi in December 2025, has experienced a notable rise in public profile. This increased fame has led to persistent media attention away from the race track.

The specific incident involved a 40-minute pursuit through London by photographers. Norris was reportedly followed to a friend’s house after leaving The Twenty Two, a private members’ club, where he had met American model Alix Earle.

Norris stated that he was followed for an extended period, with paparazzi waiting to observe his movements and who he was meeting. He expressed frustration at the constant surveillance.

‘That’s the first time where I started to feel a bit more violated in my life – that I can’t leave my hotel or house without someone trying to see every move I am doing.’

The British driver emphasised his right to a private life outside of his professional commitments in Formula 1. He highlighted a desire to engage in normal activities, such as having dinners with friends.

Norris noted a shift from spending evenings gaming at home to going out, acknowledging that such activities are now more frequently documented on social media and by cameras.

He clarified that while he accepts the pressures associated with his role during Grand Prix weekends, he will not tolerate being followed in public. Norris views such actions as an unacceptable breach of boundaries.

The McLaren driver’s comments come as he continues a strong performance in the 2026 season, including a victory at the recent Hungarian Grand Prix. This success further elevates his public visibility.

Other Formula 1 drivers have also faced challenges with privacy. Charles Leclerc previously requested fans not to gather outside his Monaco residence.

George Russell has also spoken about the lack of privacy in the sport, noting that every comment and action is scrutinised. He stated his dream was to race, not to be famous.

Beyond individual incidents, a significant data breach occurred in October 2025, where a flaw in the FIA’s driver categorisation portal exposed personal information. This included passport and license details for F1 drivers.

Security researchers identified the vulnerability, which allowed access to sensitive documents and internal FIA communications. The flaw was subsequently patched by the FIA.

This broader context underscores the ongoing privacy challenges faced by Formula 1 personnel, from direct paparazzi intrusion to cybersecurity vulnerabilities affecting personal data.
