Jack Doohan is scheduled to participate in a two-day testing of previous cars (TPC) for Haas at Jerez next week. The test, set for September 14 and 15, 2026, will see Doohan drive the VF-25, the team’s 2025 challenger. This opportunity arises as Haas evaluates candidates for a potential 2027 Formula 1 seat.
Doohan, a former Alpine junior, will be joined by two Toyota Gazoo Racing drivers, Ryo Hirakawa and Sho Tsuboi. This marks Doohan’s return to an F1 cockpit since his last appearance with Alpine after the 2025 Miami Grand Prix.
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu has confirmed a shortlist of five names for the 2027 driver lineup, which includes incumbent Esteban Ocon. The team is not under immediate pressure to finalize its decision regarding the second seat.
Ryo Hirakawa, currently a Haas reserve driver, has already participated in two free practice sessions during the 2026 season. Toyota is reportedly keen to secure an F1 grid position for the 32-year-old Japanese driver.
Sho Tsuboi, the 2024 Super Formula Champion, will make his Formula 1 test debut at Jerez. His inclusion, alongside Hirakawa, highlights Toyota’s efforts to place its talent within the sport.
This upcoming TPC follows a previous test held in Portimao, Portugal. That session featured reigning Formula 3 Champion Rafael Camara, alongside Hirakawa and McLaren reserve Leonardo Fornaroli.
Reports from the paddock indicate that Ferrari-backed Camara impressed significantly during the Portimao test. He is now considered a leading candidate should Haas opt not to retain Esteban Ocon for the 2027 season.
Komatsu recently stated that the decision-making process is progressing, albeit without urgency. He noted that the driver market has stabilized following several recent high-profile announcements.
Speculation linking Red Bull F1 reserve Yuki Tsunoda to a Haas seat for 2027 is understood to be inaccurate. Tsunoda is reportedly not on the team’s current radar for the upcoming season.
