Guenther Steiner has indicated a willingness to return to the Formula 1 paddock, provided the right opportunity emerges. The former Haas team principal stated that any potential comeback would need to involve a project he finds genuinely appealing and challenging. He is not interested in simply taking on a standard role.
Steiner departed from his position as Team Principal at Haas in January 2024. His contract was not renewed following the team’s last-place finish in the 2023 Constructors’ Championship.
Since his exit from Formula 1, Steiner has maintained a presence in motorsport. He currently serves as the owner and CEO of the Tech3 MotoGP team, a role he assumed at the start of the current 2026 season.
His involvement with Tech3 MotoGP came through an investment consortium, marking his first experience in the two-wheeled racing series. This position keeps him engaged, though it does not necessitate his attendance at every World Championship event.
Steiner, aged 61, has consistently emphasised that his career has been built around developing projects rather than merely occupying job titles. He seeks an opportunity where he can actively shape and influence the direction.
He has expressed that a return to Formula 1 would require something that truly excites him. He clarified that merely accepting a job would not provide sufficient stimulation for his ambitions.
Despite his current MotoGP commitments, Steiner remains connected to Formula 1. He frequently appears as a television pundit and contributes to various podcasts, offering his insights on the sport’s ongoing developments.
Steiner also provides commentary on specific F1 events, including a review of the 2026 Australian Grand Prix earlier this season. His perspective on the sport remains current and widely followed.
He believes MotoGP holds significant growth potential under its new owner, Liberty Media, drawing parallels to Formula 1’s development two decades prior. He noted MotoGP’s strong racing product.
A return to the Formula 1 paddock for Steiner is contingent on finding a substantial project that aligns with his desire to build and challenge himself. He is not seeking a return for its own sake.
