Adrian Newey, Team Principal and Managing Technical Partner at Aston Martin, declined to comment on speculation linking Christian Horner with the Silverstone-based outfit. Newey addressed reporters during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend on Friday, July 24, 2026.

Newey stated he continues to hear rumours regarding Christian Horner but could not offer further comment. He added that Aston Martin remains satisfied with its current senior management team.

The speculation surrounding Horner’s potential move to Aston Martin has persisted, with reports linking the former Red Bull Racing CEO to the team. Aston Martin had previously indicated no plans to bring Horner on board.

Newey’s remarks come as Aston Martin introduces a significant upgrade package for its AMR26 car at the Hungaroring. The team has endured a challenging 2026 Formula 1 season to date.

The B-spec AMR26 features a comprehensive overhaul, with the FIA’s pre-weekend submission detailing 16 new items. These changes focus on sweeping aerodynamic and chassis modifications.

Newey, who joined Aston Martin in early 2025 after departing Red Bull, has been central to the design philosophy of this updated car. His influence aims to address fundamental weaknesses.

During Free Practice 1 at the Hungaroring, Fernando Alonso placed 13th with the upgraded car. Newey described the provisional results as ‘promising’ despite it being early days for understanding the new package.

However, Lance Stroll experienced a suspected rear suspension failure during the session, limiting his running. Newey confirmed that this upgrade is only the first part of a planned series of developments.

Further steps in the upgrade programme are anticipated for upcoming races, including the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, Monza, and Baku. The team is managing expectations for the new package.

Newey’s arrival at Aston Martin was intended to significantly impact the team’s technical direction, particularly for the 2026 regulations. He began his role in March 2025.

I keep hearing about these rumours of Christian. I can’t comment further. I don’t really know anything about that. All I can say is that we’re very happy with our senior management team.

The team’s initial 2026 car faced issues with excess weight, power unit problems, and aerodynamic deficiencies. Newey has been instrumental in orchestrating a complete rethink of the team’s approach.
