Two-time Formula 1 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi has named his five favourite current drivers, notably excluding seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton from his selection. The Brazilian legend praised Oscar Piastri’s rapid development at McLaren, placing him among his preferred talents on the 2026 grid.

Fittipaldi’s definitive list for the ongoing 2026 season includes Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Fernando Alonso, George Russell, and Oscar Piastri. This selection was made public in a recent interview, highlighting drivers he believes are performing at an exceptional level.

While Fittipaldi acknowledged Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari for the 2026 season, he stated that both Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are ‘strong drivers’ for the Scuderia. However, neither driver ranked among his personal top five for the current grid.

Fittipaldi commented on Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari, noting the significant challenge of adapting to a new team and car philosophy. He suggested that even for a driver of Hamilton’s calibre, current form might not place him at the absolute peak in his view.

The former champion emphasized the competitive nature of the 2026 season, with several young drivers demonstrating exceptional skill and consistency. This factor influenced his current preferences for the top five.

Oscar Piastri has delivered a strong 2026 season with McLaren, securing multiple podium finishes and demonstrating impressive race craft. His adaptation to the new technical regulations has been particularly noted by observers.

Piastri’s consistent points scoring has been crucial for McLaren’s constructors’ championship campaign this year. He has often outperformed expectations, contributing significantly to the team’s standing.

Lewis Hamilton’s inaugural season with Ferrari in 2026 has seen a period of adjustment for the British driver. While showing flashes of pace, he has yet to secure a victory with the Italian team.

Charles Leclerc has continued to be a strong performer for Ferrari during the 2026 season. He has often led the team’s charge, securing several pole positions and podium finishes.

The Ferrari SF-26 car has shown competitive pace at various circuits this season. However, consistency across all conditions remains a key development focus for the Maranello-based team.
