Max Verstappen secured victory in the ‘Max v 100’ go-kart event at Silverstone on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. The four-time F1 World Champion overtook a field of 100 competitors in just 14 laps. This unique motorsport challenge was organised by Red Bull.
The event took place on a purpose-built karting circuit at Silverstone. Verstappen started from the back of the grid, facing 100 drivers in identical go-karts. The challenge required him to pass all opponents within 30 laps or 75 minutes.
The ‘Max v 100’ spectacle was broadcast globally, reaching audiences via Disney+ and ESPN. The field of challengers comprised a diverse group, including content creators, athletes from various sports, and other public figures.
Verstappen demonstrated immediate pace, overtaking more than 60 drivers on the opening lap alone. These initial overtakes effectively eliminated a significant portion of the field from contention.
By Lap 8, the Dutchman had advanced to fifth position. He communicated his intent to the remaining competitors, stating, ‘I’m coming for you.’
Verstappen continued his progress, moving into fourth place before ultimately taking the lead. He managed several impacts during the race to secure the win.
Following his final overtake, Verstappen commented, ‘Simply lovely.’ His victory underscored his proficiency in go-kart racing.
F1 journalist Jacky Martens finished second in the event. Red Bull Powertrains technician Lewis Osler completed the podium in third position.
Verstappen acknowledged an initial apprehension upon seeing the 100 go-karts ahead on the grid. He stated, ‘When I walked to the grid and I saw where I had to start, I was a little bit worried.’
However, his concerns quickly dissipated after the first lap. He noted, ‘After my first lap with all the carnage and how I cut through the incidents, I was ‘okay, we got this under control now’.’
Verstappen also highlighted the enjoyment of the early laps and the process of closing the gap. He expressed appreciation for the track, calling it ‘a really beautiful track.’
In contrast to the challengers, who received a go-kart racing class from Racing Bulls driver Arvid Lindblad, Verstappen had minimal preparation. He completed only a handful of laps to adapt from his F1 car to the go-kart.
Despite limited practice, Verstappen quickly assessed his pace. He determined that a strong first lap would be crucial to avoid significant time loss.
His victory in 14 laps was less than half of the allocated 30 laps. This performance has led to discussions regarding a potential ‘Max versus 200’ event.
