Jos Verstappen has articulated his perspective on Max Verstappen’s ideal Formula 1 future, emphasizing the value of building a lasting legacy within a single team. This sentiment aligns with the recent contract extension that secures Max Verstappen’s tenure with Red Bull Racing for an extended period.

Max Verstappen officially committed to Oracle Red Bull Racing until the conclusion of the 2030 Formula 1 season. This significant agreement was publicly announced on August 20, 2026, solidifying his position within the Milton Keynes-based outfit.

The four-time world champion has been an integral part of the Red Bull family since joining their Junior Programme in 2014. His debut with the senior team in 2016 famously resulted in a victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, marking the beginning of a highly successful partnership.

Verstappen has since achieved considerable success, securing four consecutive Drivers’ World Championships from 2021 to 2024. Alongside these individual titles, he has contributed to two Constructors’ Championships and amassed 71 Grand Prix victories with the team.

Prior to the contract extension, speculation had arisen regarding Verstappen’s long-term commitment to Formula 1. He had voiced dissatisfaction with the 2026 technical regulations, describing the new cars as ‘anti-racing’ and akin to ‘Formula E on steroids’.

Jos Verstappen also expressed concerns about his son’s motivation under the new regulations. He admitted to occasionally switching off the television due to a lack of interest in the 2026-spec racing, fearing Max might lose his enjoyment.

Despite these earlier reservations, the new contract underscores a mutual confidence between Max Verstappen and Red Bull. Max stated he feels ‘at home’ with the team, considering them a ‘second family’, and never felt the need to seek success elsewhere.

Jos Verstappen’s comments about building something up reflect this long-term vision. He has consistently played a pivotal role in Max’s career, viewing his son’s journey as a ‘life project’ and dedicating significant effort to his success.
