The 2027 Formula 1 driver market continues to take shape, with seven seats remaining open across the grid. This ongoing ‘silly season’ follows a period of significant contract confirmations, establishing much of the future lineup. Max Verstappen notably committed his future to Red Bull Racing until the end of the 2030 season, removing a major variable from the market.
McLaren has secured its driver pairing for the long term. Lando Norris has extended his multi-year contract, reportedly beyond 2030, while Oscar Piastri is confirmed until at least the end of 2028. Ferrari also maintains continuity, with Charles Leclerc’s deal extending beyond 2030 and Lewis Hamilton contracted until at least the close of the 2027 season.
Mercedes is expected to retain its current lineup for 2027. George Russell’s multi-year agreement is understood to cover next season, and Kimi Antonelli has been retained for a third campaign. Williams has also settled its roster, with Alex Albon confirmed until 2027 and Carlos Sainz signing a multi-year deal that extends beyond 2026.
Alpine has both Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto under contract for 2027, with Gasly’s deal running until 2028. New team Cadillac, which joined the grid in 2026, has secured Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas until at least the end of 2027. Audi, set to fully enter the sport, has confirmed Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto for its 2027 campaign.
Despite these confirmations, Red Bull Racing still has one open seat alongside Max Verstappen for 2027. The team’s junior programme is expected to be a primary source for candidates, with drivers such as Isack Hadjar, Liam Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, and Nikola Tsolov in contention.
Aston Martin presents two significant vacancies. Fernando Alonso’s contract concludes at the end of 2026, and the 45-year-old’s decision on continuing in Formula 1 remains pending. Lance Stroll’s contract, signed for ‘2025 and beyond’, lacks a confirmed end date for 2027, leaving his position uncertain.
Haas also has both its seats unconfirmed for the 2027 season. Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman joined the team on multi-year deals from 2025, but their status for 2027 has not been publicly clarified. Bearman’s long-term future is closely linked to Ferrari, potentially influencing his Haas tenure.
The Visa Cash App Racing Bulls team has both its driver seats open for 2027. This situation places the Red Bull sister team at the centre of discussions regarding the next generation of drivers from the Red Bull academy.
