Günther Steiner has offered a pointed remark regarding Toto Wolff’s recent share sale, quipping about the Mercedes Team Principal’s residence. Steiner stated, ‘It is hard to live in Monaco,’ in a comment that references Wolff’s significant financial transactions.

Wolff completed a substantial share sale in November 2025, divesting 15 percent of his stake in the Mercedes F1 team’s holding company. This transaction effectively represented a five percent share of the Formula 1 outfit.

The buyer was identified as George Kurtz, the CEO and founder of CrowdStrike. CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity firm and a prominent sponsor of the Mercedes team.

This deal valued the Mercedes Formula 1 team at an estimated $6 billion, equivalent to approximately £4.6 billion. This valuation established a new record for a Formula 1 team.

The 15 percent share sale to Kurtz generated an astonishing £230 million for Wolff. This figure contributed to an estimated £264 million in disclosed Mercedes-related value for Wolff across late 2025 and early 2026, including dividend payouts.

Despite the sale, Wolff maintains a significant ownership stake of 28.33 percent in the Mercedes F1 team. He also continues in his roles as Team Principal and CEO, with his authority remaining unchanged.

Wolff clarified that the motivation behind the share sale was to introduce a tech entrepreneur and leverage the United States market. He explicitly stated that the transaction was not part of an exit strategy from his position.

Steiner has a history of making direct comments concerning Wolff. In March 2026, he labelled Wolff’s radio message to Kimi Antonelli after his maiden win as ‘self-promotional’.

Additionally, in December 2024, Steiner dismissed Wolff’s public statements about wishing Lewis Hamilton success at Ferrari as ‘bull for the camera’.

‘It was total self-promotional,’ Steiner said on The Red Flags Podcast regarding Wolff’s message to Antonelli. ‘It was like ‘make sure that everybody knows that I didn’t do anything wrong’.’

The ongoing dynamic between the two prominent Formula 1 figures continues to generate discussion within the paddock.
