Rafael Camara’s prospects for a Formula 1 seat in 2027 are increasingly aligning with the Cadillac F1 Team. The Ferrari junior driver is currently making an impact in the 2026 Formula 2 Championship, drawing attention from the F1 paddock. This development suggests a potential pathway for the Brazilian driver onto the premier grid.

Camara, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2022, is competing with Invicta Racing in his rookie Formula 2 season. He has demonstrated strong performance, securing two Feature Race victories in Barcelona and Spa-Francorchamps.

His 2026 campaign also includes four pole positions and multiple podium finishes, placing him third in the current Formula 2 drivers’ standings. This consistent performance follows his 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship title and the 2024 Formula Regional European Championship.

The Cadillac F1 Team made its debut in the 2026 Formula 1 season as the eleventh constructor on the grid. The team currently fields an experienced driver lineup consisting of Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas, utilizing Ferrari power units.

General Motors, Cadillac’s parent company, has confirmed plans to develop its own Formula 1 power unit, targeting a 2029 debut. This project is reportedly ahead of its initial schedule, underscoring GM’s long-term commitment to the sport.

Reports from July and August 2026 indicate that Cadillac is evaluating its driver options for 2027, with Camara emerging as a strong candidate. The team’s initial strategy focused on experienced drivers, but a shift towards nurturing young talent is now under consideration.

Valtteri Bottas’s performances during the current season have been less convincing compared to his teammate Sergio Pérez. Additionally, Cadillac test driver Colton Herta is facing challenges in securing the necessary Super Licence points for a 2027 F1 seat.

Cadillac F1 CEO Dan Towriss addressed the speculation, noting that while the team is content with its current drivers, ‘things can change’ regarding future lineups. Team Principal Marcin Budkowski declined to comment directly on potential ties with Ferrari.

A move for Camara to Cadillac could also serve to strengthen the existing relationship between Cadillac and its current power unit supplier, Ferrari. Ferrari is actively seeking an F1 pathway for its promising junior driver.

Cadillac F1 CEO Dan Towriss left an asterisk amid rumours linking Colton Herta and Rafael Camara with an F1 2027 drive.

While some reports suggest Camara could also be considered for a reserve driver role at Haas for 2027, the prospect of a full-time race seat with Cadillac remains a primary focus for the young Brazilian.
