Mercedes Formula 1 driver George Russell announced his engagement to longtime partner Carmen Montero Mundt on Sunday, August 9, 2026. The couple shared the news via social media, posting a series of photographs from a beachside proposal.
The images depicted an intimate, candlelit setting by the sea, capturing Montero Mundt’s reaction and a close-up of her engagement ring. Russell’s post was simply captioned with a ring and white heart emoji.
Montero Mundt’s ring features a substantial oval-cut yellow diamond, flanked by two white triangular diamonds. Jewelers have estimated the value of such a ring to be around $525,000.
Russell, 28, and Montero Mundt have been a couple for six years, having first met in London in 2020 through a mutual friend. Their relationship became public later that same year.
Montero Mundt, also 28, was born in Spain and relocated to the United Kingdom at the age of 18. She pursued higher education at the University of Westminster in London, earning a bachelor’s degree in business management and finance.
Her professional background includes work in investment relations and management. In 2026, Montero Mundt co-founded Barriers, a skincare brand, further establishing her entrepreneurial ventures.
Earlier this year, in a June 2026 interview with The Times, Russell spoke about his relationship, stating, ‘Carmen brings me stability when it comes to racing and also a way to disconnect.’
He also indicated future plans, remarking, ‘Without doubt she’s my future. So [I hope we’ll be married] in due course. It won’t be next week, but it won’t be longer than five years. So somewhere in that timeframe.’
The engagement announcement comes during the Formula 1 summer break. The championship is scheduled to resume later this month with the Dutch Grand Prix.
Russell is currently competing in the 2026 F1 season with Mercedes, where he is contracted until at least the end of the year. His contract includes a clause for automatic renewal for 2027 based on performance.
As of the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, Russell has secured seven race wins, eleven pole positions, eleven fastest laps, and twenty-nine podium finishes in Formula 1.
During the current season, Russell is positioned behind his Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli in the championship standings. Antonelli holds a 50-point lead and has claimed six Grand Prix victories in 2026.
