Speculation surrounding Max Verstappen’s long-term future at Red Bull Racing continues, with 1996 Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill reportedly identifying Arvid Lindblad as a potential successor. This assessment bypasses other established drivers such as Oscar Piastri and George Russell in the discussion for a future Red Bull seat. Lindblad, currently an 18-year-old rookie with Racing Bulls, is making his Formula 1 debut this season.

Lindblad is the sole rookie on the 2026 grid and has already demonstrated significant potential. His junior career includes becoming the youngest race winner in both Formula 3 and Formula 2. He also participated in two Free Practice 1 sessions for Red Bull Racing during the 2025 season.

Gary Anderson, writing for The Race, has argued that Lindblad exhibits the pace, nerve, and adaptability required to be considered a serious long-term candidate for Red Bull Racing. The strategy within the Red Bull system appears to be to develop Lindblad within Racing Bulls, avoiding a premature promotion to the senior team.

Max Verstappen’s contract with Red Bull Racing extends until the end of 2028, but performance-related exit clauses have fueled ongoing uncertainty regarding his tenure. Red Bull has reportedly offered Verstappen a new contract until 2029, which includes an increased salary and the removal of these exit clauses.

However, Verstappen’s father, Jos Verstappen, publicly dismissed reports concerning Red Bull’s attempts to remove the exit clauses from his son’s contract. The four-time world champion has yet to formally respond to Red Bull’s latest offer, maintaining the uncertainty surrounding his future beyond the current season.

Isack Hadjar is Max Verstappen’s current teammate at Oracle Red Bull Racing for the 2026 season. Hadjar was promoted to the senior team after an impressive 2025 rookie campaign with Racing Bulls. He has been a consistent performer this season, securing seven consecutive top-six finishes from the Canadian Grand Prix through to Hungary.

Hadjar acknowledged that the 2026 campaign began with some challenges, stating he was ‘doing the easy stuff really wrong’ in the initial races. He has since found more consistency, with the team addressing several issues to improve car reliability and performance. Hadjar currently sits eighth in the drivers’ championship.

In a significant development for Red Bull’s talent pipeline, Gwen Lagrue has been appointed Director of the Red Bull Junior Programme. Lagrue, formerly Mercedes’ talent development chief, will assume his new role in 2027. He is effectively replacing Helmut Marko, who departed Red Bull at the end of 2025.

Meanwhile, George Russell continues to race for Mercedes-AMG Petronas in the 2026 season. Despite being a pre-season championship favourite, Russell has faced reliability issues with the Mercedes power unit. Mercedes’ deputy team principal Bradley Lord has indicated that both Russell and teammate Kimi Antonelli are likely to incur grid penalties in the latter half of the season due to component usage.
