Lewis Hamilton currently occupies third position in the 2026 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship standings. The Ferrari driver has accumulated 147 points after nine of the 22 scheduled rounds this season. The championship leader is Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes.

Antonelli leads the standings with 179 points, placing him 32 points ahead of Hamilton. George Russell, also driving for Mercedes, sits in second place with 154 points.

Hamilton’s 2026 campaign marks a significant improvement following a challenging 2025 season where he failed to secure a podium finish. He achieved his first Grand Prix victory for Ferrari this year at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

The seven-time World Champion has demonstrated consistent performance recently, securing podium finishes in four of the last five races. This run has reduced his deficit to Antonelli from 59 points to the current 32.

Ferrari’s SF-26 car, benefiting from new 2026 technical regulations, appears to align more effectively with Hamilton’s driving style. The team has also made personnel adjustments, including a new race engineer for Hamilton this season.

Mercedes leads the Constructors’ Championship with 333 points, holding a 78-point advantage over Ferrari, who are in second with 255 points. McLaren is third with 179 points.

Despite their strong position, Mercedes has encountered reliability issues during the season. Both Antonelli and Russell have experienced retirements due to electrical problems and a wheel shield failure.

The FIA implemented a rule change effective from the Monaco Grand Prix, closing a loophole in Mercedes’ power unit compression ratio. This adjustment now requires the ratio to be measured at higher engine temperatures.

The 2026 regulations introduced substantial changes to power units, mandating a 50/50 split between internal combustion and electronic power. The MGU-H component has also been removed from the power unit architecture.

The season continues with the Belgian Grand Prix scheduled for today, July 19, 2026, at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
