Reports have emerged suggesting Red Bull Racing is exploring driver options for the 2027 Formula 1 season, with some speculation indicating an unusual recruitment approach via LinkedIn. While no official vacancy for a race driver has been posted on the platform, the rumour highlights the ongoing fluidity of the driver market. Red Bull’s official career portal primarily lists technical and operational roles, not F1 driver positions.

The team’s driver situation for 2027 is a significant topic within the paddock, particularly concerning Max Verstappen’s contractual arrangements. Verstappen, currently contracted until the end of 2028, possesses a performance-based exit clause for the 2027 season.

This clause is understood to be triggered if he is not within the top two in the drivers’ championship standings by the summer break. As of July 8, 2026, Verstappen is positioned seventh, making it mathematically impossible for him to reach the top two before the break.

This development has intensified speculation regarding Verstappen’s future with Red Bull. His frustration with the car’s performance, including a rear-wing failure at the recent British Grand Prix, has been noted.

Amidst these rumours, a meeting took place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, in Amsterdam. Jos Verstappen and Max’s manager, Raymond Vermeulen, were spotted with former Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko.

Marko, who departed his role as Red Bull motorsport adviser at the end of 2025, is now an ambassador for the Red Bull Ring. The specifics of their discussion remain undisclosed.

Ralf Schumacher, a former Formula 1 driver, has publicly stated his belief that Max Verstappen will leave Red Bull. Schumacher suggested that the relationship between the driver and the team has reached a critical point.

Sergio Pérez’s position at Red Bull is confirmed through the end of the 2026 season, following a two-year contract extension signed in June 2024. This means his seat for the 2027 season is currently open for consideration.

The future of Liam Lawson, currently driving for Racing Bulls, is also under scrutiny. Lawson is having a strong 2026 season, consistently scoring points.

However, speculation persists regarding the potential promotion of Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov to Racing Bulls for 2027. Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane has dismissed these reports as rumours.

Regarding the team’s technical performance, Red Bull Technical Director Pierre Waché commented in February 2026 on the new Red Bull Powertrains engine. He stated that the power unit was not the benchmark for the 2026 season.

Waché indicated that Red Bull was behind Ferrari, Mercedes, and McLaren in terms of engine performance at that time. This assessment contributes to the broader context of Red Bull’s current competitive standing.
