Ferrari successfully completed a 200-kilometre filming day at the new Madring circuit in Madrid on Thursday, July 9, 2026. Both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton drove the SF-26, Ferrari’s current Formula 1 car, during the session.

The Madring circuit is set to host the Spanish Grand Prix from September 11-13, 2026, marking its debut on the Formula 1 calendar. This new venue is a street circuit, blending public roads with permanent sections.

Filming days are classified as promotional events under FIA regulations, allowing teams two such sessions per season. Each event is limited to 200 kilometres of running and requires the use of specific Pirelli demonstration tyres.

This early track time provides Ferrari with a significant strategic advantage over rival teams. It allows the Scuderia to gather initial real-world data on the circuit’s characteristics ahead of the inaugural Grand Prix.

The data collected includes insights into the track surface, grip levels, kerbs, and braking zones. This information is crucial for refining simulator models and optimizing car setup well before the race weekend.

The 5.416-kilometre, 20-turn layout of the Madring circuit features unique architectural challenges, including the ‘La Monumental’ banked corner. Understanding its impact on car setup and loads is vital.

The event was organised and funded by the race promoter, ensuring Ferrari incurred no expenses from its operational budget. This arrangement further underscores the value of the opportunity.

Ferrari arrived at the Madring fresh from a successful British Grand Prix, where Leclerc secured a victory and Hamilton finished third. This performance has strengthened their 2026 title challenge.

While the track itself is complete, sections of the grandstands and fan areas are still under construction. The circuit also awaits final FIA homologation before its September debut.
