Red Bull Racing’s 2026 driver lineup is confirmed, but attention has shifted to a different kind of vacancy within the wider Red Bull driver pool. This situation is generating considerable discussion among Formula 1 fans and media.

Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar are set to compete for Red Bull Racing throughout the 2026 Formula 1 season. Hadjar was promoted from Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, with this pairing announced in December 2025.

Sergio Pérez also holds a contract with Red Bull Racing until the conclusion of the 2026 campaign. This two-year deal was extended in June 2024, silencing earlier speculation about his immediate future.

The current focus of fan and media speculation centers on Liam Lawson’s position within the Red Bull driver programme for the 2027 season. His future is now under scrutiny, representing an unusual point of interest.

Lawson is currently driving for Visa Cash App Racing Bulls in the 2026 season, alongside teammate Arvid Lindblad. He has delivered solid performances this year, consistently scoring points.

However, the emergence of Nikola Tsolov in Formula 2 has introduced a new dynamic. Tsolov’s strong results, including multiple victories, are generating significant buzz for a potential 2027 F1 seat.

Reports suggest Tsolov could join Racing Bulls for 2027, which would leave Lawson without a guaranteed seat within the Red Bull structure. This potential displacement is the ‘different’ vacancy F1 fans have noted.

Lawson has stated his focus remains on his current performance with Racing Bulls. He noted that future considerations typically intensify around the summer break, indicating a decision is not imminent.

Dr. Helmut Marko, a long-standing figure in Red Bull’s junior programme, has a history of decisive driver management. He has consistently emphasized the programme’s purpose to supply talent to the top team.

The situation highlights the competitive nature of Red Bull’s driver pipeline. Decisions regarding the 2027 season driver lineups are expected to solidify later this year, following further evaluations.
